I thought it might be interesting to eat at The Lady and Sons (Paula Dee's flagship restaurant). That, plus the fact that given the crazy carless predicament I found myself in I was going to be eating at a tourist spot anyway, so I thought I might as well go whole hog.
The entire production runs like a well-oiled machine, from the host outside (I got a pink card and was directed around the corner to the main entrance, where they spotted the card and sent me upstairs to the bar) to the presentation of your ticket.
Everyone greets you and everyone's friendly (but that might just be natural - this is still the South). And everyone, from the greeters, to the bread guy, to the bartender/waiter, has got a very effective spiel. But on top of that, they are all genuinely helpful, or so it seemed to me.
My beans and rice were very good, if not quite up to my own standard (they were oddly similar to mine, though). The pico de gallo was fine, and there were about two or three slivers of collards.
I did confirm one thing, though. Crab cakes should be deep fried and not pan fried.
Or maybe they should just be from Faidleys.
