Mileage

The theme of this post might be something like, "Odometer reading is an approximation and not to be taken as an indication of actual performance."

Or, "Caution - numbers in odometer are larger than they appear.'"

One of the things I forgot to have my mechanic fix was a slight problem with the spedometer. A "slight" problem because sometimes it works perfectly. But then other times it doesn't work at all. I've gotten really good at sensing how fast I'm going just from the way the car feels (and yes, I know this won't serve me if I do find myself pulled over by an Oklahoma state trooper: "Really, officer, it didn't feel like I was doing 85!").

All this is to say that I am no longer relying on my speedometer to tell me how fast I'm going or my odometer to tell me how far I've come.

The other day I overheard someone telling a story that may be helpful in your situation. This guy found himself somewhere in south philly at 4am, stuck at a red light. He went through it. Cop pulled him over and asked him why he blew the red. The guy responded, "I didn't know you were there." The cop told him not to do it again, and let him go! Honesty - the best policy!

some would say sensing and feeling your way through life is a better way than measuring it. Like, not state troopers, but other people would say that.

I got a speeding ticket in Pearl's new car quite a few years back. I was driving a 1985 Dodge Omni at the time and her new car was a brand new Intrepid. I found myself, or should I say, the officer found me doing 85 km/hr in a 50! The Omni would shake at 70 so I had no clue how fast I was going!
