Unglamorous

A simple bowl of rich chicken-duck broth and rice noodles, with fish balls, fried garlic, chives, and sliced chicken, paired with a small bowl of soy sauce and fire chillies may be a plain Jane compared to all those other fiery fried concoctions, but damn, baby. Koay teow th'ng is a fine way to start the day.

And because I'm a weirdo, I'll share with you that I am extra glad both that I liked it and that my host recommended it for breakfast, because I had read that it was a soup much beloved by Penangians (?) that gets little love from foreigners, and I was afraid that I would be another in that number.
