Super Terminal 1

If, despite a firm nod from the bus driver in response to the question, "Is this Terminal 1 - Departures?" you are quite convinced by just looking at the building  that a) there is no way this could possibly be the sleek and modern international passenger airport, and b) it doesn't look anything like the place where you got on the bus, don't disembark.

Trust your instincts.

Yes, it's hard to do after a 15h flight and a 12h time change and a several hour layover. That's why this note is important.

Because Super Terminal 1 is very much a cargo terminal. You can't sweet talk your way to Penang on one of those. 

(Chalk this up as an adjunct to the lesson learned en route to Bangkok: the simplest words will serve you. Try "subway" and "airport" not "station" and "terminal.")
