I have just done the nuttiest thing.
I have been visiting the lobbies (and the ladies' rooms) of the fanciest hotels in town, and asking the doormen which hotels they would describe as the crème de la crème.
As far as the grande dames of the hotel world go, there is consensus: The Roosevelt (a Waldorf-Astoria hotel), the Ritz-Carlteon, and the Windsor Court.
I have also been missing a lot of brass shows, for reasons too complicated and uninteresting to go into here. That, and there is a -lot- of brass on the agenda for next week, when I was scheduled to be out of town, roaming Cajun Country.
Well, guess what?
I will not be roaming Cajun Country. I will be in town for the brass, and I will be staying at all of the above-mentioned fancy hotels, plus the Monteleone, which I had already booked for my birthday, plus the Royal Sonesta, because why not?
It is a little bit (read: a lottta bit) crazy town, but hey. Happy birthday! Those dollar bills I'll get pinned to me will help defray my costs.

extravagance is warranted considering the circumstances. Nuttiness is a quality I adore in you. Enjoy all those interesting beds.
