I've been trying to see if I can put my finger on the underlying commonalities of the countries/cities that I have failed to be enchanted by.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I think it might be countries with a recent history of totalitarianism. That's all I've been able I come up with.

Cambodia, Cuba, Argentina. What on earth else do they have in common?

That might be wrong and in fact there may be no underlying commonality at all, but it's something to think about other than whether or not that "ticket" I paid $170 cash to the concierge for is actually going to get me out of the country.
