When you cross state lines on backroads, you don't get quite the same welcome as when you cross on an interstate and stop at the Visitors' Centre. There is a discreet, unobstrusive sign, in teeny tiny font, that announces that you are entering Georgia (so spotted by my lovely travel companion), and (more exciting to myself) a sweet little low-profile sign announcing our return (Hallelujah!) to Eastern Time.
It's good to be back.
(It's especially good to have realized this before dropping my travel companion off at the airport.)

Be still my beating heart, Georgia. What a beautiful state indeed. Say hello to Springer Mountain if you see it (the start of the Appalachian trail).
