My posting just got swallowed up, but what I wanted to say was what's up with juniper berries?
I had never heard of them prior to last week, when they suddenly seemed to be popping up in every single recipe I looked at. I might have a vague memory of their appearance in my old British mystery novels, but that's my best guess.
What is up with juniper berries?
Are they the latest ingredient du jour?
Do they matter?

You're funny. Hug yourself, grab a pitcher of gin martinis and contemplate this on the tree of woe.
Juniper berries are archaic school. They're what give gin its flavor and are used for things such as Brines, gotta havem. Plus tons of other goodies. I have cookbooks going back maybe 370 years, they all gots the berries. And, they're not actually berries. But I don't want to complicate it. Embrace the juniper, study the juniper, feel free.

I had a girlfriend named Juniper once.
